Soo VAC/Moxie Style + Fashion Show

show image Show Runs: August, 2004

A recent effort was designed to open the doors of Soo VAC to a new group of independent thinkers who choose to express themselves through clothing and personal style— ‘A Hair-Raising Style Show.’ The show was the fifth collaboration between Soo VAC and its neighboring business the Moxie Hair Salon and Gallery.

Soo VAC, under the direction of curator Emily Johnson, invited five local, emerging fashion designers (Steve Hutton, Emily Johnson, Emily Litjens, Liselie Polivka, and Lynn Sabin) to exhibit their clothing on the Soo VAC catwalk with hair designs by Moxie.

Also on the runway were the reconstructed garments of the Experimental Sewing Workshop garment exchange, from the Church of Craft, Seattle-project. The monthly sewing gathering of designers and crafters began in 2001. The group has grown in two short years from a small group of like-minded friends to an eclectic crowd of creative minds hungry to share their expertise and learn from each other. Upcoming plans include screen-printing and embroidery workshop/demos, informal critiques, and a group quilt project.

As part of the Style Show, the gallery walls displayed the photographs of emerging Minneapolis photographers Simòn Martinez and Matthew Sternson.
