Seventh Annual Altoids Curiously Strong Collection

June 4 through July 8, 2005

For its second time, Soo VAC was selected to host the Altoids Annual Curiously Strong Collection. Since 1998, the Altoids Curiously Strong Collection of contemporary art has been a showcase for some of the most talented emerging visual artists working in America today. Each year, Altoids engages the expertise of a selection committee comprised of prominent artists, critics, curators, and gallerists. The Collection includes work made in all media, including photography, video, mixed media, sculpture, painting, and digital art. The Collection has traveled to major cities such as New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas and has shown in such venues as the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City, Walter/McBean Gallery at the San Francisco Art Institute, Consolidated Works in Seattle, and DiverseWorks in Houston. At the conclusion of each years tour, the newest installation of the Curiously Strong Collection joins the other 70 works in the permanent collection at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City.
