The compulsion to alter that which has come before, to revisit a moment that could unravel the tenuous fabric of a transient present and undiscovered future, is at the center of Adam Hamilton’s Fluctuating Capacity. Born from a fascination with how to reconcile an acceptance of the present with a preoccupation of the past and future, Hamilton’s exhibition delves into the potential corruptibility of time.
Melding notions of scientific experimentation with elements of fantasy, Fluctuating Capacity, will reveal splintered journeys into physics and philosophy. This immersive installation will construct a space that acts as a vignette into one individual’s obsession with time travel, a personal catalogue of inventions, memories and alchemistic potential. The work is a combination of found object assemblage and paintings of an accomplished realism with flourishes of a more personal stylized technique. Together these elements present the viewer with an entry point into a world that represents one man’s struggle with the inherent chaos of life, as well as his fantastical solutions of how to control the inevitable passage of time.
Adam Hamilton is currently in the MFA program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received his BFA in Communication Design at Metropolitan State College of Denver. He exhibited in numerous galleries throughout Denver and received several best in show awards. Along with his arts practice he also owns a successful design company, Brink Visual. This will be Hamilton’s first exhibition in Minnesota.
