This is the tenth year that Soo Visual Arts Center is hosting an exhibition of selected works from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design MFA Program. This year one artist was chosen from the current MFA candidates for an opportunity to show a comprehensive body of work, Kayla Plosz. The show continues SooVAC’s commitment to supporting the Master of Fine Arts program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. SooVAC founder and artistic director, Suzy Greenberg, herself an alumna of the program, has presented a group show featuring MCAD MFA candidates since the gallery opened in 2001.
Kayla Plosz’s oil abstractions deal with the visceral nature of the human body. Her mark making is a struggle between intuition and intellect; abrasive acts of erasure mingle with gentle washes. The content of this work is an interplay between color and texture and vague representational imagery of the body. The work is visually seductive, promising the viewer just enough to entice but always withholding definitive understanding.
This will be Kayla’s first solo exhibition. Kayla will complete her MFA in May 2012.
