Untitled 8 will mark the eighth year of SooVAC’s juried exhibition series. Untitled provides opportunities for artists working in any medium and at any stage of their career, resulting in a survey of varied perspectives and provocative work.
Untitled 8 features a collection of artists who are investigating hidden tensions, the attraction of revulsion, the physical self and universal communication when language is constantly being abstracted and specialized. Juror Bartholomew Ryan, assistant curator at the Walker Art Center selected 8 artists working in a diverse range of mediums including, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and video. Whether it is the relationship between human and animal or between viewer and maker, this work provides a focus for exploration into of how we navigate the ever-increasing complexity and anxiety of our surroundings.
About Untitled 8 Juror:
Bartholomew Ryan is Assistant Curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. In 2011 he is co-curating two solo exhibitions, Goshka Macuga: It Broke From Within (opening April 14th) and a new project with Mexican artist Pedro Reyes (opening August 11th). Bartholomew's undergraduate degree is in drama and theater studies from Trinity College Dublin, and he holds an MA in curating for contemporary art from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York.
